Articles: What is Ribose

What Is Ribose?

Ribose is a simple, five-carbon monosaccarhide1, used by all living cells and is an essential component in your body energy production. It is a good carbohydrate to use in food; furthermore it’s a bioactive ingredient that energises functional foods. It helps your body naturally restore its energy level. It is used by your body cells to form the primary source of all your body energy – ATP. (Adenosine Triphosphate)2. ATP is called the “energy currency” because it gives your body the power to function, survive and thrive.

Like a computer, your body needs energy to keep running. For the most vital task of making the energy you need, your body produces Ribose. Overexertion, strenuous or infrequent exercise, can seriously drain energy from your body cells. This can leave you fatigued, sore, weak, and drained. What better product can you choose to assist in supplementing your diet with an energy source as may be required during training or other daily activities.

1. Monosaccharides (from Greek monos: single, sacchar: sugar) are the simplest carbohydrates. They cannot be hydrolyzed into simpler sugars. They consist of one sugar and are usually colorless, water-soluble, crystalline solids. Some monosaccharides have a sweet taste. Examples of monosaccharides include glucose (dextrose), fructose, galactose, xylose and ribose. Ref: www.wikipedia.org

2. The ATP molecule is one of the most important (if not the most important) molecule that exists in our body. It is designed to be able to provide a large amount of energy for a wide variety of processes. Source: www.personalpowertraining.net/Articles
